Dive Center Siddhartha Dive Resort & Spa Bali, Indonesia
Barbara Ebel is the manageress of the double story Werner Lau Diving Center.
You will also see Stefan Brand, manager of the resort hotel, quite often. Barbara & Stefan have made this their new home, after spending many years in the Maldives.
The diving center will be run by divers, for divers. They have adjusted well to their new country & are up to the challenge of becoming the best diving center in Indonesia.
The new diving center is situated 30m from the beach. As at all other WERNER LAU diving centers, our guests' recommendations & requests will play an important role in how business will be run.
In order to meet this challenge, the center offers the necessary facilities & has sufficient equipment available for rental e.g.:
30 BCDs (Scubapro)
30 Regulators with octopus, SPG & inflator hose (Scubapro)
60 sets of masks, fins & snorkels (Seeman)
30 wetsuits (3mm shorties & 3mm long johns)
20 dive computers
2 digital underwater cameras
There are 120 x 12litre Aluminium cylinders (DIN & INT), filled by a Bauer compressor. Nitrox, which will be produced by our brand new NRC membrane- system compressor, will of course be available free of charge.
Furthermore on request, a member of staff will be happy to assist those guests wanting to make use of our well equipped workshop for minor equipment repairs.
Private as well as rental equipment is stored at the diving center. Our staff will load your diving equipment for dive excursions into the transport vehicles or onto the dive boat. They will also bring your equipment back to the diving center, rinse it in fresh water & store it once again after each excursion.
This all round service will ensure that our guests need not concern themselves with these tasks.
The House Reef
There is a stunning house reef directly in front of the hotel. We offer a comprehensive tank service for house reef divers, as at all other WERNER LAU Diving Centers. Our staff will transport your equipment to your respective point of entry & collect it once again after your dive. Our guests will therefore not be lugging any equipment themselves.
Up until 10m depth there are magnificent corals on the house reef, after which you will see extremely large, individual coral balmies in various parts of the reef. Numerous fish as well as occasionally sharks & Napoleons can be seen.
In the west, the house reef continues on to Kubu Drop Off & Kubu Coral Garden, two of Balis' most beautiful dive sites. These incredibly beautiful sloping reefs are covered with fields of hard staghorn coral (Acropora sp.) & numerous species of gorgeous soft coral (Dendronephthya spp.). Rare species of crab, such as the Porcelain crab, as well as the tiny Cowry shell (Pseudosimnia sp.) can be seen here.
And don't forget to look out for Pygmy seahorses (Hippocampus bargibanti) on the deeper Gorgonian sea fans!
Practically every species of reef fish can be seen in abundance: schooling fish such as Chevron barracudas (Sphyraena putnamiae), big schools of basslets (Pseudoanthias spp.), as well as the solitary species of fish, e.g. large groupers.
And for the shark fans, there are white tip reef sharks & nurse sharks to be seen. With this amount & variety of fish species, one can spend the entire holiday diving only the house reef. There is seldom strong current. Water temperatures vary between 26-29 degrees depending on the time of year.
Other than shore dives, you also have the option of diving various dive sites which can be reached by boat within 3 - 60 minutes.
On full day excursions, during which 2 dives are done, guests will be provided with sandwiches, fresh fruit, water and soft drinks. This is included in the price of the dive package!
The time of departure time for our excursions to local sites such as Coral Stairs, Angels Canyon, Batu Karang, the Liberty Wreck, Batu Kelebit, Seraya, Ahmed or Gili Selang is between 07:30 & 09:30 in the morning.
However, the departure time for our excursions to Secret Bay, Menjangan, Padangbai, Nusa Penida (Manta Point) or Lovina will be between 05:30 & 07:30 in the morning.
We usually return to the SIDDHARTHA from our local dive site excursions between 14:00 & 15:00. However most of our dives are single tank dives done from the boat in the morning and/or afternoon.
Practically all the "top sites" of Bali can be reached from the SIDDHARTHA.
We have 1 boat (10m), big enough for 12 guests, at our disposal as well as three small mini buses. This results in more flexibility, enabling us to fulfil all guest requests as well as being able to offer truly individual diving.
A large selection of dive sites can be reached within 20 minutes - 1 hour. We are approx. 2,5 - 3 hours away from Bali's other highlights, such as Lovina in the north, Nusa Menjangan as well as Secret Bay in the west. The dive sites around Pandangbai & Nusa Penida in the south-eastern region of Bali, can be reached within 1,5 - 2 hours.
Another highlight worth mentioning is that the famous "Liberty" wreck as well as other top sites such as "Tulamben Drop Off" can be reached in only a few minutes by boat. These excursions will leave at 09:00 in the morning, returning at approx. 11:00. We leave at 14:00 for the afternoon excursions & are back at the diving center at 16:00 (single dives). Night dives from the boat on the "Liberty" wreck are also possible.
The undamaged reef on the eastern side of the island is covered with stunning coral, where schooling fish as well as a large number of small and big fish species can be seen. An absolutely perfect site for a drift dive! Experienced boat captains will guide you through every "nook & cranny". It takes approx. 1.5 -2 hours to reach Padangbai, from where you will travel another 30 minutes by speed boat to reach your final destination.
We offer regular day trips (by car) to "Secret Bay" - a well known bay which is one of the best sites in the world for seeing "critters". The journey takes approx. 3 -3.5 hours.
This region is a marine national park. Apart from Tulamben, Menjangan is considered Bali's top diving region. There are a variety of dive sites from which to choose, some of which are coral gardens & stunning drop offs. It takes approx. 2.5 - 3 hours, followed by 40 minutes by boat to reach.
Our dive boat & cars are equipped with oxygen, a first aid kit as well as mobile phone. The nearest diving doctor, who also operates the recompression chamber, is in Denpasar (Sanglah General Hospital, Diponegoro Street).
Education in diving
We offer introduction dives several times a week for first timers wanting to experience the underwater world. This will give you the chance to discover the hidden treasures of the Indonesian Ocean & simultaneously try out the practical side of a diving course while under instruction from a professional.
The beginner course takes between 3 - 4 days. During morning and afternoon sessions in the water, students are taught in small groups how to dive by a professional diving instructor. Theory sessions (approx. 6 hours) are conducted between 17:30 - 19:30 in the evening over 3 consecutive days.
The student will receive an internationally recognized diving certification (SSI Open Water Diver) after successfully passing the written exam.
Training for certification up to the level of SSI DiveCon, CMAS Gold & PADI Divemaster is also possible for advanced divers. Furthermore, practically any speciality course can be conducted with those who are interested.
The WERNER LAU Diving Center is located on the premises of the Siddhartha Dive Resort & Spa in the small village of Kubu in north-east Bali.

The name Indonesia has its roots in two Greek words: "Indos" meaning Indian and "Nesos" which means islands. It is an appropriate description of the archipelago as there are estimated to be a total of 17,508
