Diving center, Alam Anda Dive & Spa Resort
The professional diving centre is managed by Erik Verhoef.
There you can also meet Bettina Eitel who is as the hotelmanager responsible for the resort.
The new diving centre is 50 m from the beach and is equipped - as are all WERNER-LAU-diving centres - to cater for the special requirements of divers.
In order to meet all demands, there is always enough equipment available for hire. e.g.:
- 30 BCD Jackets (Scubapro)
- 30 Regulators with octopus, depth gauge and inflator (Scubapro)
- 60 Sets comprising of mask, fins and snorke (Seemann)
- 30 wetsuits (3 mm Shorties)
- 20 dive computers (Aladin)
- 10 underwater torches
- 2 digital underwater cameras
To ensure that everything runs smoothly we have 110 Aluminium tanks (12 litre, DIN + INT) available. The tanks are filled from a Bauer Compressor.
A well equipped workshop is also available for use by the guests if needed. The members of our staff are always ready to give advice or lend a helping hand.
Both the privately-owned and the hired equipment are kept in the diving centre and will be loaded onto the boats or cars by members of our staff, who at the end of the trip will also bring the equipment back, rinse everything in fresh water and store it in the diving centre.
With this all round service the guest have more time to relax.
The house reef
There is a very good house reef directly in front of the diving centre. Even if you are an experienced diver you will always encounter something new on each dive, no matter how many times you dive here, and it is a paradise for underwater photographers! On the house reef we offer 3 different entry and exit points on the house reef. Our guest do not carry any tanks to or from these points as the well know Werner Lau tank service is offered as well as at all diving centres.
The reef covers the total wide of the Hotel grounds, and is a designated conservation area - the first of its kind in Bali. The government agreed to this as an experiment and the fishermen in this area are banned from using nets, cyanide or harpoons. The underwater world here is therefore intact.
There is a shallow area, maximal 6 m deep, which goes out to about 50 m from the beach, and in calm sea this makes a great snorkelling area. After that, the bottom drops away at approx. 45° to greater depths. This intact reef is alternately made up of standing blocks of corals, small drop-offs, coral plateaus and complete reef walls overgrown with various kinds of soft and hard corals gorgonians and sponges. The sandy areas in between invites you to linger and are ideal for macro photographers and beginners. There is a splendid diversity of tropical fauna which includes blue-spotted rays, leaf fish, moray eels, lion fish, long-nose hawk fish, ghost pipefish, pygmy seahorses, shrimps and several types of sea slug. Numerous shoals of fish such as barracudas and batfish and a family of napoleon fish inhabit the house reef. Sometimes we even see turtles, passing eagle rays and during the night dives, Spanish dancers can often be seen.
Strong currents are rare and the water temperature varies according to the time of year between 27° and 29°C.
As well as diving from the beach there are also a large variety of dive sites on offer, which can be reached in less than 20 minutes by boat or within 20 to 60 minutes by car. Normally we offer 2 dives. During the time between the dives, guests are offered sandwiches, fresh fruit, drinking water and soft drinks which are included in the price of the diving packages.
The trips to Coral Stairs, Angels Canyon, Batu Karang, Kubu, Tulamben, Amed or Gili Selang start between 7:30 and 8:30 a.m.
Exceptions are the trips to Secret Bay, Menjangan, Padangbai or Nusa Penida (Mantapoint), which begin around 5:30 to 6:30 h in the morning.
We get back to Alam Anda from the local dives between 2 and 3 p.m. If requested, we also offer ½ day trips with only one dive, either in the mornings or afternoon (Kubu, Tulamben). These start at 9 a.m. and get back around midday or start at 2 p.m. and return to the centre at approx. 4:30 p.m.
We have 1 boat (10 Meter) and three small busses enabling us to be extremely flexible to cover all customer requests and to offer personalised diving.
From Alam Anda it is possible to visit all the top dive sites in Bali. A large selection of dive sites can be reached within 20 minutes to 1 hour. Further highlights such as Nusa Menjangan and Secret Bay in the western part, are approx. 2.5 and 3.5 hours away. The south-easterly dive spots around Padanbai and Nusa Penida we reach in about 2 to 2.5 hours drive.
The best known diving spot in Bali is in TULAMBEN - Only 40 minutes from the diving centre away by car. Here is the fascinating wreck of the "Liberty" to which we offer regular trips. It is a spectacular site for night dives as well. Just round the corner is TULAMBEN DROP OFF (lush overgrown wall that drops down to 60m) and CORAL GARDEN (colourful coral landscape partly covered with huge sponges).
our insider tip - (wonderful canyon landscape with rare soft corals).
KUBU - DROP OFF
(soft corals, octopus, white-tip and nurse sharks).
A large part of the east coast of this island has an intact reef with splendid corals, sponges and large populations of both large and small fish. A real titbit for drift divers! Currents of up to 30m/min are not unusual. Experienced boatmen accompany the divers closely to the surface. The trip to Padangbai takes approx. 2 to 2.5 hrs and then a further 30minutes by speedboat.
Also, regular daily trips (by car) are offered to the well known bay "Secret Bay" (one of the best spots in the world for "Critters")
Underwater conservation area. After Tulamben the best diving area in Bali with many diverse dive sites such as coral gardens and splendid drop-offs. The travelling time is approx. 2.5 to 3 hrs plus 40 minutes by boat.
The boats and the cars are equipped with oxygen an emergency first aid kit and a mobile phone. A doctor specialised in diving medicine and who supervises the decompression chamber is based in Denpasar (Sanglah General Hospital, Diponegoro Street).
Several times a week we offer the chance to allow newcomers to the sport a taste of the wonderful world of diving.
During this dive which lasts about 1 hour, you can experience the beautiful under water world of the Indonesian Sea on a trial basis.
At a depth of only 3-5 meters it is like being in the middle of an aquarium and you can enjoy the fascinating world of the coral reef.
The courses take between 3-4 days. The pupils spend the mornings and afternoons in the water and are introduced to diving in small groups under the supervision of a qualified instructor. The theory lessons (approx. 6 hours) are on 3 consecutive days between 5.30 and 7.30 p.m.
After passing the exam the pupil receives an internationally recognised certificate (SSI Open Water Diver).
We also offer instruction up to SSI DiveCon, CMAS Gold and PADI Divemaster for more experienced divers. Additionally we are qualified to teach and certify nearly all specialist courses.
The WERNER LAU DIVING Center is situated at the Alam Anda Dive and Spa Resorts in Sambirenteng / Tulamben

Let's go archipelago
The name Indonesia has its roots in two Greek words: "Indos" meaning Indian and "Nesos" which means islands. It is an appropriate description of the archipelago as there are estimated to be a total of 17,508

continental mainlands and dividing the Pacific and Indian Oceans at the Equator.
Five main islands and 30 smaller archipelagoes are home to the majority of the population. The main i
slands are Sumatra (473,6O6 sq.km), Kalimantan 1539,400 sq.km), Sulawesi l 189,216 sq. km), Irian Jaya (421,981 sq. km), and last but not leastJava (132,187 sq.km), home to 70 percent of the country's population.
